The 2006 edition of Transatlantique Montreal will take place from the 19th to the 24th of September. Transatlantique is an original event that aims to develop artistic and cultural exchanges locally, nationally and internationally in the area of dance and movement-based arts.
At the beginning of the cultural season, here is what Transatlantique has chosen to offer Montreal audiences :
Two world premieres, Eryn Dace Trudell’s Mama Dances / 1000 Mains (Montréal / Toronto) and Septango, by Marie-Josée Paradis (Saguenay).
A North-American premiere, Shiki La Neige, by Kabuki and Nô master Shiro Daïmon (Japan / France).
Two Montreal premieres, Ahora by Marie-Josée Paradis (Saguenay) and Solo w. File Cabinet by Marlee Cargill (Paris / Toronto).
A snapshot of the next generation of artists with works by two Montreal-based national schools, the École Nationale de Cirque and the Jeune Ballet du Québec guided by choreographers Shawn Hounsell (Birch Hills, Canada / Montreal), Victor Quijada (Los Angeles / Montreal) and Miguel Robles (Caleta Olivia, Argentina).
And finally, the pleasure of seeing once more the works of two Montréal choreographers who have made their mark on both sides of the Atlantic : Angels, the latest work from Ginette Laurin / O Vertigo, and Cascando, a classic piece from Louise Bédard’s repertory.
Once again, Transatlantique wishes to offer a variety of alternatives, so that the general public may appreciate dance from here and elsewhere and be a witness to artistic expression. As we all know, art is a crucial part of human development that everyone should be exposed to so as to be able to reflect upon their own humanity.
Transatlantique Montréal 2006 is a meeting place, an open window to the dance world, a crucible for exchange between artists, audiences and cultural circles.I wish you all inspiring discoveries.
